A southern knife maker is becoming world famous for the knives he's creating in a humble Omakau shed.

Peter Lorimer has been making knives for about a decade, and several top New Zealand chefs are using his tools for their trade.

Central Otago has joined the billon dollar space economy after a state-of-the art space radar was unveiled this week.

Californian company LeoLabs has built a radar on a Maniototo farm near Naseby, which has the ability to track space debris as small as two centimetres

The idea came about when Jackie Hamilton, who works at the pharmacy, was travelling overseas and saw how popular pianos in public spaces were.

People of all ages lined St Bathans rugby field, for the annual Wooden Cup match between Becks and St Bathans on Saturday.

It could have been anyone's match until the final quarter but a late try gave Becks the margin it needed, for a healthy 34-19 win.
