Pupils from Lawrence Area School recently submitted a wide range of ideas for the cover of their local phone book.
The winning design was by a thirteen-year-old boy who incorporated the town's main street into his design.

There was something for everyone at the this year's Kaitangata Car Show and Cruise last Saturday.

A run-down community hall in rural West Otago hall looks set for demolition unless an eleventh-hour alternative can be found.
Next Tuesday will see a public meeting being held in the hall to decide if the 65-year-old facility is to be demolished and have a smaller shelter erected in its place.

The Sunday morning silence was shattered at 10am by the wailing of a fire alarm at Silver Fern Farms Finegand plant outside of Balclutha.
It wasn't signalling a major fire, but marking the culmination of three months' planning for a Fire and Emergency NZ annual brigade level training exercise for local volunteer brigades.

There was no shortage of brains on show at the inaugural School Scarecrow Competition in Balclutha on Tuesday.
Eight Clutha district schools entered the event for its first outing at the town's community garden, after it was established to stimulate young interest in all things green-fingered.

Crowds gathered on a farm just south of Milton over the weekend, to remember the late John Goldsworthy and check out the auction of his collection of vintage memorabilia.
Goldsworthy was a well-known aficionado and collector of all things Massey Ferguson, with thirty one of his tractors going under the hammer on Saturday.

Learning about farming bees and marketing resultant honey has been part of the school term for pupils at Waitahuna School.
The school honey project came about after a local family discovered a large swarm of wild bees in one of the walls of their farm house.
