An anticyclone is developing in the south Tasman Sea and will spread over southern districts this weekend with some coastal cloud but long sunny periods inland. Temperatures will remain cold. Next week the airflow will tend northerly and becoming warmer as the anticyclone moves away in the Pacific.

Dry at first on Sunday with heavy cloud and freshening northeasterlies, but some rain likely during the afternoon and evening. Becoming fine and sunny on Monday with cool southwesterlies dying out.
