A group of street artists from as far away as Auckland are in Riverton this week to create a series of large murals.
Eight New Zealand artists are painting areas of the town for the South Sea Spray Riverton permanent exhibition.
Southland artist Danny Owen says murals are slowly becoming more popular in major cities throughout the country, and creating eight massive murals in the space of a few days is spreading vibrancy in one hit.
He says while each artist has their own narrative as to what they create, the murals will compliment the town's seaside vibe.
Owen chose to start in Riverton because of his own connections to the area, and says South Sea Spray is set to reach all corners of the region.
The artists are looking at painting Invercargill and Bluff in the next couple of years, and say the work in Riverton is the start of something big.
An open day is set to be held on Saturday for the public to watch the artists collaborate on a single mural.

The two pods are stranded at the southern end of Mason Bay, approximately two kilometres apart.
Doc say half of the whales have had to be euthanised due to their condition, and the remote area they were found.
The other half had already died.
They say the likelihood of being able to successfully re-float the remaining whales was extremely low, so the most humane thing to do was to euthanise.
Doc has notified local Ngai Tahu iwi and they're working together on next steps.
A number of strandings occurred on New Zealand shores over the weekend, but the events are unlikely to be related.
