An Invercargill policeman accused of murdering his wife Verity and attempting to murder the man she was living with, Garry Duggan, made is first appearance at High Court today.

Benjamin Peter McLean did not enter a plea when he appeared in the Invercargill High Court via video link today.

His lawyer Bill Dawkins says a pleas would be premature as the investigation is ongoing.

McLean has been remanded in custody until July 18 when it is expected he will enter a plea.
