A new strategy to manage and protect the local environment is finding favour among residents.

The city council has received about 100 submissions on the draft strategy, and most are strongly in support.

There's also been about 500 public responses to questions posed by the council in relation to the strategy.

Residents were asked what they treasured most about Dunedin's natural environment.

They were also asked what needs to change in order to protect, restore and enhance those treasures.

Submissions are being analysed and the council's scheduled to consider recommendations early next year.
