Today's wet and windy conditions not only played havoc on the roads, but also closed the airport.

Dunedin International Airport Operations Manager Richard Roberts says two inbound flights were diverted to Invercargill this morning.

Roberts also confirmed flight NZ 671 was returned to Christchurch, and JQ 283 didn't depart to Auckland.

He says the Airport reopened around 11 am.
