Saving a building and using it, too, has proven a winning formula for one Dunedin owner.

Co-owner of the former Rogan McIndoe building in Crawford Street, Laurie Forbes, was delighted yesterday to have won the supreme award at the Dunedin Heritage Re-use awards last night.

He says it was a labour of love for some years to refurbish the heritage building.

Innovation was needed to keep the costs down but the end result was worth it.

The building also won Structural Engineer Peter Stevenson the Earthquake Strengthening Award for the year.

Stevenson says the building now met 100% of new building standards.
