A Dunedin family is reeling after losing the bulk of their possessions in a house fire this morning.

The blaze is believed to have begun in the laundry room of this Mulford Street house in Concord about 8.30am.

Occupants managed to get out of the house safely before fire crews responded to the emergency call.

The home was reportedly well involved by the time firefighters arrived at the address.

It's understood the house is owned by Housing New Zealand and the occupants are not insured.

In the last few days there have also been significant house fires in Bluff and Invercargill.
