The Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority has declined the liquor license of Wests Southern Liquor in Dunedin.

The Bayview Road business has been a soft drink manufacturer for more than 100 years.

Its license renewal was approved in September last year. However, a month later, both the Medical Officer of Health and the DCC Licensing Inspector appealed the decision.

Wests' Director Alf Loretan says they're not going to appeal at this point, but they are disappointed and frustrated.

However he's thankful for all the community support they've received, and says they'll find a way to carry on.

The application drew no public opposition or any objection from Police, but was opposed by the Medical Officer of Health.
