Hundreds of people remain without power following yesterday's heavy dumping of snow in the Queenstown area.

The heavy snow began early yesterday and continued until about noon.

It loaded tree branches, bringing some down on to power lines and others across roads.

Crews battled extreme conditions yesterday to restore power to three thousand properties.

Lines company Aurora Energy has confirmed six hundred and fifty people don't have power today, including nearly four hundred customers in Glenorchy, due to difficulty getting though.

Aurora say they're unable to estimate when repairs will be completed until the extent of the damage is known.

MetService is predicting more snow next Monday.
