The public has the opportunity to name one of the jewelled geckos rescued from a German tourist who tried to smuggle a pair to overseas in 2010.

The male is the only survivor after the female died in quarantine.

The as yet un-named male has been living at the Otago Museum since returning to Otago in December last year. Otago Museum is inviting people to suggest a name for the jewelled gecko / moko kākāriki.

Anyone can submit a name and their reasons for it, to Otago Museum by May 19th.
