Peel Forest Preschool in South Canterbury held a day celebrating children's pets.

This was the first pet day, held on the grounds of a former primary school which is now administered by a community trust.

Pet day gave the children, parents and extended families a chance to relax in the school grounds in the company of puppies, lambs and even a goat and miniature horse.

Children led the animals around a small course for judging, which was followed with a break for a morning tea of cakes, scones and toffee apples.

Twenty years ago the local primary school merged with another school nearby.

Former Peel Forest resident Tony Timpson donated money for the community to purchase the buildings and grounds.

A community trust manages the site which is now being used by the Peel Forest Preschool.
