Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred near Wallacetown in Southland yesterday.

A 56-year-old man died at the scene, at the intersection of Underwood-Linds Bridge Road and State Highway 99.

It appears the victim, a motorcyclist, collided with a ute about 3pm.

The serious crash unit is investigating the incident.

It was the third fatal crash on New Zealand roads during the long weekend.
