Police are rejecting claims by demonstrators of a heavy-handed response to yesterday's mining conference protest.

Around 150 protesters clashed with police and security guards in several fiery conflicts outside the Town Hall, with some suggestions the authorities acted violently.

But Police say officers were gentle with demonstrators.
