A new pontoon jetty for boaties should be in place at the Wanaka marina by the end of the month.

There is nothing much to see at present, just some large steel pipes in the marina carpark.

Queenstown Lakes District Council deputy mayor Calum Macleod says he expects work to start this week, and for it to be in operation by the end of this month.

The jetty will be placed next to the existing boat ramp and will be an important addition for commercial boat charter operators.

The council has budgeted $200,000 for the project and awarded the tender to an Auckland company.
