Heavy rain over the past 12 to 24 hours has caused surface flooding and closed roads around Dunedin.

Steady rain has caused surface flooding on areas of the Taieri Plain.

There are no major issues at this stage, but Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council staff and contractors continue to monitor the situation and respond as required.

The MetService is forecasting another 15 to 20mm of rain until 8pm tonight, but conditions are expected to ease.

There has been localised flooding in some areas of Mosgiel and East Taieri and several roads have been closed. Motorists are asked to drive carefully.
