A mystery substance sprayed on roses at Dunedin's Northern Cemetery has impacted more plants than initially thought.

About 500 of the 1200 bushes at the significant rose garden are showing signs of damage.

Heritage Roses Otago convenor, Fran Rawling, says it's likely to take six years to return the space to its former glory.
