Takahe conservation efforts are ramping up at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary near Dunedin.

Fertilised eggs from Te Anau are being incubated by an old pair within the reserve, thanks to some intervention by staff.

And there's hope another surprise egg will also hatch to boost the native bird's population.
