A truck caught fire while travelling south towards Dunedin on State Highway 1, at the passing lane between Russell and Whites Roads, approximately 6:30 this morning.

The driver was uninjured in the incident.

The vehicle was removed during the morning but the Police asked for the public's patience while this happened.

Police say the highway was fully cleared by mid afternoon.
