Wanaka barman Ricky Barbara will represent New Zealand in an unusual event in the Netherlands in September.

Barbara has just won a competition in Auckland, ahead of about 100 other barmen and women, to pour the country's best Heineken beer.

He's now eligible to compete at a similar event in the brewing company's home town of Amsterdam.

The South Today went to Wanaka's Trout Bar to find out how he did it.
