Dunedin city councillor Lee Vandervis is seeking legal advice about his two-month suspension from committee duties.

Vandervis told 39 Dunedin News he's not sure if he'll take legal action, but he's consulting lawyers.

He's suspended from all council committees until July.

He can attend meetings and participate in debate, but can't vote, although he's still able to fully participate in council meetings and the long term plan hearings and deliberations.

His suspension relates to breaches of the council's code of conduct.

Vandervis has acknowledged the breaches, but his last-minute apology did not meet requirements set out by the council.

He was invited to resubmit an apology, and chose not to.
