The last of five little blue penguins taken into care in Oamaru has finally been released.
The birds were taken to the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony's rehabilitation centre a month ago, having been found covered in oil.

Oamaru's annual Victorian Heritage Celebrations started last Thursday and were in full swing over the weekend.
"Wheels" were the theme for this year's celebration of how things were during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Maheno School held its Annual Pet Day recently, featuring the same judge its had for the last 53 years.
Eighty five-year-old, Ray Lawrence, has judged the event since 1966 but says, he still enjoys the occasion.

Around 10,000 specators attended the annual Waimate 50 car racing event north of Oamaru over labour Weekend.
Thanks to the hard work of 200 volunteers, this year's event saw more teams, more days and more race categories than ever.

Parishioners were set to gather for a final Presbyterian service at Papakaio Presbyterian Church, northwest of Oamaru on Sunday.
The service would mark the end of 125 years of Presbyterian worship at the church.

A newly formed group called Friends of the Monarch Butterfly say the first step is to grow more swan plants and nectar plants around the town.

A crowd of nearly 500 people ran five kilometres around Oamaru's racecourse while being pelted with various shades of coloured powder along the way.
The Rainbow Run is now in its seventh year, and each time raises funds for a good cause.

Judge Amber Casserly says the best of the competitors had judges struggling to find fault with their woolhandling technique.

As part of a movement to bring more vibrancy and vitality to Oamaru's CBD, local businesses have joined forces to launch a campaign to re-engage shoppers.
Named "Shoptober", the month-long event aims to get consumers shopping in Oamaru first, before going online or taking a trip to nearby cities.
