On Saturday night, the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra gave its first Queenstown performance in the orchestra's 53-year history.

They played before a full house at the Wakatipu High School auditorium, with about 330 tickets sold.

It was a case of deja vu, on Monday, as the Queenstown District Council voted to reject a modified version of the Local Airport Corporation's statement of strategic direction.

At the end of last month, the same council rejected the Queenstown Airport Corporation's original statement.

The airport anticipates passenger numbers to exceed those allowed by existing air noise boundaries, within the next few years.

However, a Wanaka motelier says, the softening tourist market means: accommodation providers, rather than tourists, will end up paying the proposed 5% "bed tax".
