The Shiel Hill pub, in the Dunedin suburb of the same name, has been a licensed establishment for more than half a century.

It was closed in May last year when the owners decided to sell.

The venue was then bought by an Auckland businessman whose plans for a boutique retirement village might suit at least one long-time regular.
