Yesterday hundreds of tourists were evacuated from the earthquake ravaged holiday town of Kaikoura.

Otago Daily Times reporter Chris Morris was up there and has brought back scenes of the evacuation.

Holiday-makers became evacuees in Kaikoura following this week's massive earthquake.

Queues of people waited to board the HMZ Canterbury at Kaikoura for a short trip to Port Lyttelton.

This afternoon The Government has announced a $20Bn support package for those effected by the quakes.
