A bizarre police pursuit involving a man riding a mobility scooter has been captured on video.

The scooter was filmed weaving in and out of traffic, being pursued by a police car with flashing lights in Timaru, in a very low-speed chase.

The video shows the man's determined, but gradual, escape bid as he leads a patrol car across town.

The clip ends with the chasing car making contact with the scooter, sending it into a driveway.

A police officer is then seen leaving his car to continue the chase on foot.
