An Otago Miss Universe New Zealand finalist has returned home after a whirlwind few weeks gracing the stage, while saving lives in high-altitude dramas in her spare time.

Fourth-year medical student Deborah Lambie was named second runner-up at the contest in Auckland on Saturday.

That followed an incident where she assisted a fellow passenger in medical trouble on a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok to Auckland.
