Otago flanker Adam Thomson has confirmed his commitment to the Highlanders for the 2011 Super Rugby season.

Highlanders Coach Jamie Joseph says Thomson's re-signing is important for the retention of a locally-produced rugby talent.

In a statement, Thomson said the decision to stay in Otago was one of the most significant in his life.

There had been considerable speculation in the media that he was being courted by the Canterbury Crusaders.
