Assault

Monday, March 5, 2012

Police are warning residents not to take matters into their own hands after two local men were charged with assault on Friday night.

The pair, aged 19 and 20, disturbed a man and a woman
attempting to break into a car late at night on Stafford Street. As the car belonged to one of the men, the pair chased the alleged offenders up the road.

The car owner and his friend then assaulted the male would-be-thief, who was then taken to hospital and released with minor injuries.

All four were arrested and charged as a result of the incident.
Acting senior sergeant Ben Butterfield says the incident showed it isn't smart to deal with crime yourself, and advised it was better to contact Police immediately instead.
