Dunedin woke up to find the iconic statue of Queen Victoria at the Queen's Gardens defaced with paint.

A painted slogan daubed beside the statue suggests the message was addressed to the Prince of Wales, who is the heir apparent to the British throne and currently touring New Zealand.
