Advertisers are contesting proposals to change the rules for liquor advertisements.

A Parliamentary Select Committee's taking submissions on proposals to restrict liquor advertising to after 10pm - one of the possible changes to the Sale of Liquor Act.

The Association of New Zealand Advertisers describes the proposal as draconian, and say it would limit alcohol advertising to a two hour period.

The committee's also discussing the highly controversial issues surrounding the legal drinking age and the possibility of returning it to 20.
