The family of a 19-year-old Alexandra youth who died a car crash last week have been overwhelmed by public support in the wake of the tragedy.

Ravineel Sharma was the front-seat passenger in a car that crashed into a tree near Alexandra Airport, just before midnight last Thursday.

The driver, also 19, remains in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital.

Ravineel's family said they were humbled by the support they had received, as well as the Givealittle page that had been set up.

The Sharma family wanted to remind families to travel safe and look out for each other and their friends.
