The Green Party has commended New Zealanders for voting for greener transport in national local body elections.

The party says the public has cast a clear vote for better buses, trains, walking and cycling in their cities.

The Greens say progressive victories across the country demonstrate that Kiwis understand the economic and environmental challenges the nation faces.

Green party co-leader Dr Russel Norman says the outcome is a positive one for sustainable communities and smart economics.

Dr Norman has requested that the Beehive now takes notice of what the public want in their national transport budget.
