Work has begun in earnest to open State Highway One between Kaikoura and Picton.

Helicopters were at work on Sunday sluicing slips that block the highway and removing rocks. This will make it safe for contractors to start clearing tonnes of material brought down in the November 14th, 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
