A man who allegedly viciously assaulted his partner yesterday morning has been arrested, and appeared in the Dunedin District Court today.

The 28 year old is defending two charges - threatening grievous bodily harm and injuring with intent to injure, which carry respective penalties of up to seven and five years imprisonment.

The victim allegedly sustained extensive bruising, broken ribs and facial injuries.

The man was denied bail and will reappear in court next Tuesday.
