The Ministry of Health has announced that more New Zealanders are having colonoscopies, an early detection method for bowel cancer.

The cancer kills more than 1,200 New Zealanders a year but it is also one of the most treatable and curable if caught early.

Nearly 38,000 Kiwis received colonoscopies over the past year, over 2,000 more than in the previous year.
