One of the longest running and most unique parts of university orientation took place last night.

Once again hundreds of first year students raided laundry cupboards from their halls of residence to take part in the annual Toga Party.

Around 2,000 students donned sheets for this years celebrations.

The event has become one of the highlights in Orientation week, with numbers getting bigger every year.

Live entertainment kept the party goers happy, including Kiwi chart toppers “L M N O P”.

The Dunedin Casino Dance Squad offered some useful dancing tips.

Most of the party goers are first year students from the university's halls of residence.

Organisers say the crowd was well behaved, and the night went off without a hitch.
