Both of the men killed while paua diving in the Catlins last weekend have been farewelled in Balclutha over the last few days.

51 year old Malcolm Ward was farewelled by mourners in his hometown on Saturday, before a private cremation in Dunedin.

In tribute to his passion for woodwork, a chainsaw adorned the coffin, while mourners scattered wood shavings from his father's workshop on his coffin.

His friend, 23 year old Mitchell McPhee was farewelled earlier today.

Around five hundred mourners packed the town's South Otago Town and Country Club for a celebration of his life.

Both men were paua diving in the Catlins last weekend when they died in unexplained circumstances.
