The National Party is expected to wait until Prime Minister Helen Clark sets an election date before releasing details of its crucial taxation policy.

Support for National has increased in recent polls since this year's budget from Michael Cullen which was criticised for its lack of tax relief.

However, National leader Don Brash is promising cuts to all personal tax rates as soon as next April if the party controls the next Government.

Dr Cullen claims the promise is "reckless and unaffordable" but National insists there is room to trim spending and make savings to pay for tax cuts.

The party's also expected to cut the company tax rate to thirty cents in the dollar although this is likely to be delayed by at least a year.
