Two people are injured following a paraglider crash near Queenstown this morning.

Police, a rescue helicopter and other emergency services were called to the incident below Coronet Peak just after 11am.

Officers say two people had to be extracted from the wreckage, with moderate and minor injuries.

It's believed the paraglider was carrying a pilot and a paying passenger when it crashed on a steep slope, about halfway between the take-off point and landing site.

The reserve parachute was reportedly deployed, and the Civil Aviation Authority has been notified.
