Primary and intermediate school students battled it out in the Ariki Cup cross country running event in Dunedin today.

About two hundred runners from fourteen schools took part in the event at Kettle Park.

Portobello running champ Lila Rhodes passed the finish line as the winner of the Year five and six girls race.

The fine weather and firm ground made for excellent running conditions as the pupils did successive laps of the track.

The primary students ran two laps while the intermediate pupils completed three.

The annual event is organised by the Ariki Athletic and Harrier Club.
