Close on 300 darts players from Blenheim to Bluff, are converging on Oamaru for the annual South Island darts tournament.
The event includes categories for both male and female players of all ages, competing in singles, pairs and club teams.

More than 100 ultra athletes crossed the finish line of the fourth of seven stages in the Alps 2 Ocean Ultra marathon on Thursday.
Being held for the last ever time, the event takes runners from Mount Cook to the sea coast at Oamaru.

This year's yellow-eyed penguin chicks at Moeraki have been taken into care after three were killed, probably by a ferret.
Nearly all of the 49 chicks born at the two Moeraki colonies are now in the care of Penguin Rescue, with staff staff saying human intervention was the only way to keep them safe.

Work on demolishing the old Tait science building at Waitaki Boys' High School began on Friday.
The 60-year-old building is to make way for a large open space for pupils to enjoy from next year.

It's been more than 20 years of disappointment for the people of Oamaru, who want to make a splash at their local pool.
But from Saturday, the Waitaki Aquatic Centre's new diving board will be open for business and Otago Daily Times reporter Daniel Birchfield was given the honour of being the first person to leap off the platform, in more than two decades.

A man in his sixties is dead after being shot by police in Kurow, North Otago late Thursday night.
Police say at a press conference the man 'held and presented' a firearm at police before he was shot.
