Another significant rainfall has led to further erosion of an already major slip on the Newcastle Track, near Luggate.

A large washout on the track first happened after a major rain event in May, leaving a large debris fan flowing into the Clutha River and a gaping gully in the cliff face.

A new track over the debris had been formed, and signs of caution erected by the Department of Conservation.

But this week’s rain has caused further slippage covering the track once more.

Doc workers are clearing and reforming parts of the track and say the track remains open, despite the erosion.
