Sponge rolls, steamed puddings and wool garments were on show in Ashburton last week as the Mid Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes competed at their annual Federation Cup Day.

It's nearly 70 years since the local ladies catered for the Ashburton leg of the British Lions rugby tour of New Zealand.
