Burning beehives would have to be one of the most difficult things for a beekeeper to do - it's also an experience, increasing number of Southland apiarists will have to face.

The hives are being burned to stop the spreading of destructive bee-killing disease American Foulbrood.

And one Southland beekeeper says ignorance is a major contributor to the disease being spread.
